Angus Stewart QC has been installed as a Senator of the College of Justice, taking the judicial title of Lord Stewart.
As one of the most senior members of the Scottish Bar Lord Stewart was instructed regularly in a wide range of leading cases which included medical negligence, personal injury, immigration, health and safety prosecution and contractual disputes.
He was Standing Junior Counsel to the Department of the Environment (1983 - 1988), Keeper of the Advocates Library (1994 - 2002) and Chairman of the Scottish Council of Law Reporting (1997 - 2001).
Lord Stewart also served as Convener of the Faculty of Advocates Human Rights Committee (1998 - 2004) and was Senior Advocate Depute from 2005 until 2007.
From 2008-2010 he served as Leading Counsel to the Billy Wright Inquiry in Northern Ireland and has published on a number of topics including administrative law, health and safety, human rights and medical negligence.
Lord Stewart joins The Hon Lord Carloway, The Hon Lady Dorrian, The Hon Lord Hodge and the Hon Lord Woolman as former members of the Hastie Stable elevated to the Bench.
